0 One thing I don't understand is why there's no need to include a 'had' before 'won' to indicate the spear was obtained before the catching happened. Any good explanation? I was told if the sentence has a "before" or "after" which helps to clarify the timeline, there's no need for the perfect tense. However, that's not the case here. 0-
