Sent To Be Retrained

Suppose a worker's job performance deteriorated. His employer put him on administrative leave to take a retraining course:

1 "The worker was sent away to be retrained."
2 "The worker was sent off to be retrained."
3 "The worker was sent to be retrained."

Using definitions 4 & 5 of my dictionary:

Could the sentence 3 be as good as the first two sentences?

Top answer

I think 3 is better than the other two, but I would say that the worker was sent for retraining .
