sent thouse projections back down to relevant department heads

Budgeting decided that some of the projected costs for next year were not accurately calculated and sent those projections back down to relevant department heads for further review.

Hi,
Is "down" in the above optional? If not, what does it refer to? Thanks.

Hi, 'Down' is optional, but its use implies that 'Budgeting' has authority over the department heads. Ie Budgeting has a higher position in the company. Clive
