Broadly speaking, Indian English is often much more elaborate than English here in the West.

The equivalent here is much more likely to be
eg I am very happy to tell you that . . .

You are right, Clive. I don't know if others agree with this view: Since it is a foreign language, the wish to impress overtakes the need to be natural and short. This is very much evident in my writing and something I want to get rid of.
