Sends good fortune/halting wandering children

Hi

The author of a book about magic writes about feathers and their magical nature.

A gray feather attached to a package sends good fortune to your friend, while a blue one ensures health and green increases money.

--- Does it mean that if one attaches a gray feather to a parcel which one wants to send to his/her friend then the feather will bring my friend a good fortune? And if I attach to it a blue feather then it will have some influence on his/her health and a green one will help him/her to make more money?

Feathers were also once placed in doorways with the mystic intent of halting wandering children from passing through.

--- So they placed feathers in doorways because they didn't want wandering children to come to their houses for example?
