Sending troops vs. dispatching trrops

Hi, there
I guess, as a non-native english speaker, sending troops and dispatching trrops are the same thing.

Q1. What is the different between them?
Q2. How can I say if I were sent or dispatched to some country? ( Is it possible to say 'I was dispatched(sent) to Australia in 1901' ? I want to know the usual expression of it. )

Thank you.
