Send messages through time

Hi,

Could you please tell me what "send messages through time" means in the following passage.
This was part of a reading comprehension, I could post the whole text if needed.

There is one thing among all that makes people and animals different. People love to talk. We are great talkers. We can send messages in so many ways. Most important of all, we can write, so we can send messages through time. We have an understanding of past and future, not just present.

Thanks, in advance

When someone writes something, it lasts (potentially) forever, so we can still read things that were written hundreds or even thousands of years ago, and the things written today will (potentially) still be readable in hundreds or thousands of years' time. This is what it means by sending messages "through time" (I assume).

None of the answers look right to me. 1 and 3 don't seem right because they are not specific to writing (note, i

None of the suggested answers seem perfect to me as well, but if we choose the most appropriate one, I would go for '1'

Considering the last sentence in your first post

"We have an understanding of past and future, not just present." it may be assumed that people are able, unlinke animals, to talk about past, future and present because they [people] have an understandin
