Semi-Colon Usage

Hello,

I have written the below paragraph, which I need a little help with.

'Everything was grey, the streets, the cars, the lampposts, the sky; everything was so *** grey, especially when compared to the explosion of colour that I was carrying.'

Should I use a semi-colon after the word 'grey' instead of a comma?
Also, is my usage of the semi-colon (which I have used) ok?

Thanks
Ryan

Should I use a semi-colon after the word 'grey' instead of a comma? No. What follows cannot stand alone, ie is not a main clause.

  • It's OK, but I'd just use a period.
