Hallo, I study English at the moment and this is my difficult task:

Explain the term sense and discuss briefly why the sense of a word is essential in oder to understand the meaning of that particular word. Use the noun cow to illustrate your answer.

I do not understand the term sense as it is explained in my course material.

Hi,

I would go further and say that 'sense' refers less to the dictionary definition and more to how you feel about the word when you encounter it.



eg cow definition a fully grown female bovine



But my sense of the word cow is 'a big, friendly animal on a farm'
