Sell vs. sale

I'm frustrated that i continue to receive letters from my childrens' elementary and middle schools mixing up the words sell and sale. Am I wrong?? Example: We will have candy to sell, so bring extra money!

We are having a candy sale. There will many types of candy on sale. We have a lot to sell.
