Self-teaching?

Hello there.

Is there any other way to say I studied something on my own using the word 'teach'? 'I self-taught myself' sounds wrong to me, or is it okay to say it like that? Or could you propose any other similar expressions? That would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
