(self-)overcoming.

Is this sentence correct:

"She was once a stellar athlete, and after her serious accident which left her severely disabled, she continues being an example of self-overcoming."

And would it make sense to say:

"She was once a stellar athlete, and after her serious accident which left her severely disabled, she continues being an example of overcoming."

Note: By '(self-)overcoming', I mean the 'act of extending one's limits after continuous struggle'.

THANK YOU.

If I'm understanding the given sentence, you're trying to say something like the following, for example: She overcame a sickly childhood to become a stellar athlete, but then came the accident that left her badly disabled; but, once again, she overcame her medical problems, not to win gold medals in sports, but to just get into a wheelchair every day and carry on with her life, and with such gusto that normal folks were amazed at her cheerfulness in the face of her condition.
