Self confidence

Hi.

Do we have a word describing false self confidence?

I mean descibing someone who is not good at sth capable of doing sth, but he thinks he is.

Ex. You cannot do the performance, I think you have---------------.

I can think of extra self confidence, false self confidence, but I am not sure if we have such things.

Thanks

I can think of "over-extended" (but only in the case of having taken on too much to do).

Thanks Grammar Geek.

Thanks philip.

overextend and self delusion are two nice words I didn't know.

BTW, I would be grateful if you say your opinion about false self confidence.

Thanks

I'd suggest instead "a false sense of self-confidence."

Thanks Jim.

What about delusion of competence?

The only phrase I'm familiar with is delusions of adequacy. I've never heard the one you suggest, but that also seems possible. In any case, though, you'll need the plural delusions.
