’’Selection" what? Or another term?

Dear Everyone,

When a show series is planned for television, a competition type, for example, often there’s a pre-selection process consisting of occasions when it is decided who will get the chance to take part in the show and compete, and who won’t. This doesn’t necessarily mean interviews, they can be just what the show will be like except that these (pre-?) selection somethings might not be shown to the public.

Could you tell me, please, what do you call them?

It’s not auditions I guess…

Thanks!

Hi, Sounds to me like 'auditions'. I suppose 'screenings' or even 'pre-screenings' might be another possibility. Clive
