Seems such vs seems so

He isn't very well off. Only he seems so.

He isn't very well off. Only he seems such.


He had been sick, but he wouldn't be so any longer.

He had been sick, but he wouldn't be such any longer.

Regarding the above two sets of sentences, which are more proper? Is there any difference between the two expressions?
