That can happen if you don't brush at least once a week.

I wouldn't use the word finish in that sentence. I'd probably say something such as never seems to get used up. Or I might say something like this:

1a There seems to be a never-ending supply of toothpaste in this tube. I've had it a year.

I take "finish" as poetic - like personification. The tube is accused of having its own agenda.
