Q "How is your dog today? I hear it was looking a bit sick yesterday."

A "It seems well."

He's fine. He's good.

He's doing well, thanks.

(No American - at least, none that I would associate with - would ever use "it" to refer to a dog. Use he or she.)

I am English. "It" is a perfectly adequate term for the little beast next door which keeps me awake by yipping through the night. And its owner, too. Give me a cat any day of the week.

Q: "how is your pet amoeba today?"

A "it seems well.'"

Acceptable?

Well is either an adverb or an adjective.
If it is an adjective it means to be in a good health.
It (my dog) seems well is correct.

It's more common to hear people say "he seems to be doing well /better".

I agree with GG. Perhaps in the old teaching that "it" was used to refer to animals and inaminated objects. At least in AmE today, pets are regarded as part of our family and are referred as "she" or "he" according to your pet's gender.

I believe that is, seems, feels, and a few other words take the adjective good.

I am feeling good, she seems good, he's good. People hyper-correct and use well when they say "I am well, thank you."

As always, usage in other regions may be different.

"I am feeling good" can just as easily imply a moral condition; "well" is less ambiguous.
