'seeing you' vs. 'meeting you'

Hello, I'm wondering if there's some difference between 'it's nice seeing you' and 'it's nice meeting you' ? thanks.

'Meeting' in this phrase always means 'for the first time' and 'seeing' here almost always implies 'again'. So if you went for dinner with a friend, and they brought their girlfriend who you didn't know, you would say 'It was nice seeing you' to your friend and 'It was nice meeting you' to the girlfriend.

Thanks. And when saying goodbye, is it usual to use past tense, ' it was nice seeing you ' ?

Usually yes. And when greeting, use the present 'It's good to see you!'
