Seeing the Animals

Hi,

What does the red words mean?
Thank you for your help.

Seeing the Animals

Their eyes are
not our eyes
yet we can see
ourselves in them.

We do not walk
the ways they wald,
yet we follow
their footprints in sand.

Sometimes they come
to us, when we
hold their silence
they understand.

Poetry isn't really my forte, but I see this as saying that we and the other animals are very closely related and that we have a mutual understanding of each other, even though we don't communicate with words.

And "we hold their selience they understand" how to show the meaning of "we and the other animals are very closely related and that we have a mutual understanding of each other, even though we don't communicate with words" ?

[we hold their silence] is strange to me.
it can not make any sense to me.
