Vocabulary

See / catch up

Hi teachers,

1. "I am seeing Tom" means "I am dating Tom". But for friendship, is it natural and grammatical to say: Mary and I still see each other every few months. (to mean like having dinner, coffee)

2. Do you say: Mary and I still catch up with each other every few months (to mean like having dinner, coffee)

3. Mary and I still get together every few months.

Thank you.

tinanam0102 2. Do you say: Mary and I still catch up with each other every few months Because it is known that you and Mary are meeting each other, it's a bit redundant to say "with each other". I would just say: "Mary and I still catch up every few months".

  • It's probably more obvious if you consider the alternative: "Mary and I still meet up every few months".
  • Otherwise all your sentences seem fine.

Hi Makka,

Can I ask you if "Mary and I still see each other" correct, implying we get together, but not dating?

Thank you.

Yup that's right, it doesn't imply you're dating.
