Secret as a verb

Hi

Could you tell me how you find the use of secret as a verb in this sentence?

He had secreted away some official documents in his village home.

Thanks,

Tom

The verb in this sentence is the past tense of 'secrete' (hide).

'Secret' is not used as a verb.

I couldn't find a phrasal verb "to secret away"; but even if I came across such a verb, I would take it as "to get the secret out" rath
