Second or third conditional in this context?

Hi. Please help. Would either the second or third conditional be correct in this situation?

(Someone sets this story scene in past tense before proceeding to ask a question in conditional form - see the question in italic)

A person was riding hard to get to his work on time, but it seemed he was going to be a little late. On the way to work, he saw a boy who had fallen off his bike and seemed unable to get up. The boy signaled for help.

Question: If you were/had been the person riding to work, would you help/would you have helped the fallen boy?
