Second greatest effort

Can I say this? Is it good English?

-French is what I put in the/my second greatest effort to study. (=in terms of time, energy, etc. French is second most important; I devote my greatest effort to one thing above French; only one thing demands more from me than French)

Thank you.

Your sentence is understandable, but bad at the same time, in my opinion. 'I put my second greatest effort into learning French' or 'Learning French is what I put a lot of effort into'. ( I'm not sure about 'second greatest effort' though.

  • Yet people say 'the second highest building in the world' so I think it's fine).
