The line graph illustrates the amount of commodities carried in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 2002 by four different modes of transportation.

It is noticeable that all means of transport witnessed a steady increase during the research period. Meanwhile,road was the most common used method to ship goods.

As is illustrated, in 1974, the amount of goods carried by road was highest, at approximately 70 million tonnes, while pipline accounted for just around 7 million in terms of good delivered . At the same time, the figures for water and rail were equal, at roughly 39 million tonnes.

In 2002, the UK witnessed a significant rise of 30 million to nearly 100 million tonnes in the quantity for goods carried by road and remained the highest figure in this graph. Similarly, after some fluctuations , there were insignificant growths to 62 million and 41 million tonnes in the amount of goods transferred by water and rail respectively. By contrast, the amount of good transportation by pipeline rose sharply of about 14 million to 21 million tonnes within a 28-year period.
