Seattle Accent Identified
The native Seattle accent is exemplified by Dino Rossi, the governor-elect (for the moment) of the state of Washington. I've heard a dead-similar accent from at least one other confirmed Seattle native.
The only easily-describable feature is its CICness. Rossi, for example, pronounces his surname (rA"si), it seems to me. A New York Speaker would use the "caught" vowel in "Rossi", since it is squarely in the "boss" class (cf. RonE "orff"). What's more, Rossi has a daughter named "Juliauna" a name (or spelling of a name) that could only have been dreamed up by a non-CINC person.
Beyond that, there's something weird going on at the timbre and intonation level. The accent is characterized by a sort of buzzing quality, and there's something there that's strangely reminiscent of the northern Ontarian speech of Alan Thicke (say, where is...?).
By the way, ever notice that Alan Thicke, Peter Jennings, and Jim Carrey, not to mention some members of the cast of at least one iteration of Degrassi High , all sort of look alike?
