Why aren't the seasons capitalized like the days of the week and the months? (Ex. Monday, Tuesday, December, November) But why not Winter Fall (Autumn), Summer, or Spring?

I suppose "Because that's the way we do it" isn't a good enough answer? There was a time when they did capitalize seasons, but no longer.
