Grammar

seaside

Hi,
Are there any diferences between:

-at the seaside and -by the seaside? (e.g He has a house by/at the seaside)

And is this correct: I went TO the seaside?

Top answer

I would prefer to say "He has a house by the sea". I think the "by" in "by the seaside" is slightly redundant because "side" already contains the necessary meaning. However, it is not glaringly wrong and would probably be accepted by many people.

  • For example, "We're off to the seaside tomorrow.
