Sear/daub colours each other faces

In Holi, we smear/daub colours each other and celebrate it. But we make sure we don't smear or use permanent/strong colour so that the colour goes off after a bath.

Please correct my sentence and suggest me better versions too. Thanks.

Thank you Mister Micawber.

Can I also replace "permanent pigment" with "permanent colour"?
Also I wonder if there are any more alternatives for that.

'Colour' is too vague here.
