Searching fingers scraping the low bellies of purple clouds

Hello,

This one coming from a man who's about to get in to a club and this is the first sentence he used to desribe it.

Spotlights crissed and crossed, searching fingers scraping the low bellies of purple clouds.

I have no idea about what he meant with the part that comes after the coma. Could you please help?

Thanks in advance,
Dilan.
