Script Analysis - Hollywood Screenwriter Software

What exactly does the script analysis feature do in the Hollywood Screenwriter software? Is it a useful feature for a spec script? I'm choosing between Hollywood Screenwriter for $38.00 or Screenwriter Pro for $50.00.
I had Movie Magic Screenwriter ordered from amazon.com but after thinking about it for an hour or so I decided to cancel the order. I decided to take the advice some of you gave and leave the expensive software for later.
I was playing around with Screenwriter Pro and one thing I really didn't like was how "scene" oriented it is. I was hoping I could write like I do in Microsoft word, from top to bottom with no limits. I can scroll freely top to bottom. Maybe I'm not using it right, but I don't think you can see your whole script while you are typing. I don't know what you call it - write as you go? You can see everything using the print preview feature tho. But was hopping I can see it all without using the print preview.

Are there any other choices out there for scripts besides Hollywood Screenwriter and Screenwriter Pro? Say around $100.00 and under?

One thing that has scared me away from Hollywood Screenwriter is the bad reviews it has gotten on amazon.com.
Thanks!

  • And the character's names and the average length of their dialog and a few little things like that.
  • I think you could probably live without it, but it's pretty nice to have when comparing scripts.

Yeah, I meant SceneWriter Pro. Does Hollywood Screenwriter keep track of things like characters and locations? Does it give you option and writing project notes?

Yeah, I saw those offers on eBay. They say they want proof of attending a school. I've already graduated from college. So, I'm a past student. Wonder if there is a way around that.

Yes on things like characters and locations (kind of) but the detail is not like like Sophocles or Scenewriter Pro. There are two tabs in the Script Analysis feature. One of them is "Chracters" and it gives basics about how

No, I don't. I'm sorry. What I did is bought a used copy of MMS 3.0 on eBay, but they're not showing up as much as they used to.

Good luck.

Haven't started yet.

That's what I thought.
My two cents:
You've asked all the questions you need to ask. You have all the information you need. Do a quick (and I mean quick) review of the Trottier book and get cracking on a script.
Use a word processor there
