Scratchy start

Shakib to Tendulkar, out Caught by Kayes!! What an anti-climax that is! Late in the day he falls, it was tossed up on the middle and leg, Tendulkar flicked it well, but did not clear Kayes at mid wicket, easy catch and after a scratchy start, Tendulkar goes now, Shakib and B'desh were prraying for that and Tendulkar has answered their prayers

Could you please explain to me what "scratchy" means in this context?

I guess it means "a fine start" though.

It's not an expression I'm familiar with, but I assume it means an awkward or difficult start.
