scratches clears up

Yesterday I fell off the bike and I got heavy scratches on my face. I'm not going to come to school until all my scratches clear up.

I was distracted by TV, so I forgot to turn off the gas stove. So the dish is heavily cooked. (I mean cooked for more time)

Please correct my sentences.
