Scrape the wall/walk along the wall

Which is correct?
or how would you say it?

1 The dog scrapes the wall because he's scared to fall into the pool.
2 The dog walks along (the edge of) the wall as he's scared to fall into the pool.

In the 2nd one, is "the edge of" correct? or can you not say EDGE OF THE WALL?

For a dog, say 'it', unless
