'A score' is an archaic term meaning 20. When we say 'scores of', we really just mean 'a lot of''.

Hi Clive, so it's wrong to understand it as "dozens" ? I can understand with the first meaning that I wrote, something like big number of ...

Hi,

Dozens of / scores of are both common ways of saying 'A lot of'.

But if I buy a dozen carrots, I have 12.

If I buy a score of carrots, I have 20. (And my English sounds archaic.)
