Scorching hot day vs scorchingly hot day

Hi

Would both of these work in casual spoken English?

It was a scorchingly hot day.

It was a scorching hot day.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks, GPY. One more question.

Is scorchingly hot day a better phrase in careful, formal writing? Or again both would work equally well?
