Scoot meaning escape

Hi

Can we use the word scoot in the sense of escape?

A - What did he driver do after the accident.
B - He simply scooted.

Let's scoot before someone sees us.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: He escaped the prison.  -- He escaped from the prison.

Both correct?
