Scientists predict in the near future cars will be driven by computers, not people. Why? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

In the next few years, with an increasing impetus in the ICT (computer technology) area, self-driving cars will be familiar to the community due to the speculation of professionals. There are a number of reasons for this and I argue that while the trend has some drawbacks, they are still outweighed by its own benefits.

There are two important reasons why cars soon will be monitored and controlled by computers. Firstly, rather than wasting time for driving daily, many individuals consider that their time should have been used for a greater purpose. As a consequence of heavy workload, citizens now wish to have more time in their works which could have been taken for granted while they are driving. Therefore, technologists have been working on for a solution and have carried out several concerts of self-driving vehicles. Secondly, the car industry needs a breakthrough in cars’ function to develop. Specifically, if this invention meets the people’s expectation, the sales of these cars will increase sharply, contributing to the growth of car corporations.

However, this tendency could have negative effects in terms of both individuals and society. An important effect is that computers sometimes are a little risky at driving. Even though there would be the camera system at both the front and the back of a car, it is still a challenge to control cars because the artificial intelligence is still not cognitive and developed enough. On the contrary, smart driving can help with the safety of people and saves lots of time and effort. For example, if drivers were drunk and cannot drive themselves home, the only way would be to catch a taxi but because of this improvement, people now can have a free and safe home trip.

In conclusion, there are a number of evident reasons for the prediction in which self-driving cars will be widespread. As a result, this could mainly benefit people regardless of some negative effects.
