Science or scientific experiments

There was a multipe choice question like this: "many people have objected to the use of animals in _____ experiments". A.science; B. scientist; C. scientific; D. scientifically

I choose A but the key turns out to be C. Can someone explain that to me?

Both A and C are possible, but I would say that the people who made the test wanted you to see that the blank was before a noun ( experiments ), so they wanted you to choose the adjective form scientific in preference to the noun form science . It's not a very good question. CJ
