schwa - æ

admit

is the pronunciation of underlined letter "scwha" or "æ"?

Hi, Merriam Webster says both are acceptable in American English. I would use a schwa, just because it's simpler to say it that way.

schwa, not scwha.

I say it as "æ", reducing to a "front schwa" (something between "æ" and "e") in faster speech.
It is never the low schwa that sounds like "u" in "but", i.e., never udd-mit.

Although -- See www.m-w.com, where the speaker says something very close to udd-mit.
