While I'm aware that both forms are correct, I'd like to know which one of these is used more frequently.

Depends if you're talking about neckpieces or joining wood pieces.

If the latter, it's scarfs.

If the former, I can't find a definitive authority either way, most sources I checked seem to favor (albeit slightly) scarfs over scarves . Though I myself, as a long-time Upper Midwesterner USA, have mostly heard scarves.
