Scalp/scalps

Hi, is there any difference between the following sentences?

a. I have rashes on my scalp.

b. I have rashes on my scalps.

Thank you.

Top answer

Hi Scalp is a straightforward singular noun for the skin that covers the top of the head. If you are just talking about your own scalp then it is definitely singular.. - I have rashes on my scalp Only if you were talking about more than one person would you use the plural..

I see no need to use "rashes" in the plural. The most natural way to say this would be "I have a rash on my scalp."

Hi

I will go with khoff on that

If I had a rash above my right eye and another to the rear left of my head I might say I have two rashes - one here and one there

But in fact the term is most used generically as khoff says: I have a rash on my scalp

Thank you, Dave and khoff.

I really appreciate your comments and answers.

Now I have another question.

When a doctor asks a patient, which of the following phrases is most idiomatic?

a. Do you have a rash?

b. Do you have any rash?

c. Do you have rashes?

d. Do you have any rashes?

Hi

I would say that the most likely is (a)..

- Do you have a rash?

If the patient then shows one on their leg, then a follow-up question might be..

- And do you have any other rashes?
