say vs tell

I'm wondering if there is any difference between Say and Tell. Thanks in advance.

"Say" is followed by "to", for example, She said TO me , "I am going to the supermarket ". "Tell" cannot be followed by "to", for example saying She told to me that she was going to the supermarket would be wrong. It (tell) takes a direct object, as in " She told me/ him/her/them/John etc.
