save someone something

Hello, ..

Is the following statement correct?

Careful planning and assessment would save investors and contractors wasted time and effort.

In particular, is it okay to say "save someone wasted time"? The point is, we may well hear: save someone time, but can we save wasted time?

Thank you>

  • Surfer Careful planning and assessment would save investors and contractors wasted time and effort.
  • Correct.
  • Surfer The point is, we may well hear: save someone time, but can we save wasted time?
  • Put so starkly ( save wasted time ) it doesn't sound quite right, but in the full sentence you presented earlier in your post, it sounds fine.
  • Of course, we are to take it to mean save (someone) from wasting time , and you can use this instead of save wasted time in the original sentence if you'd like a more direct expression there.
