"save me a trip"?

Hi

Would you rephrase the part of the sentence below?

The cops are directed to the hotel and save me (a clerk) a trip down the street.

Thanks,
M

To "save you a trip" is to prevent someone from having to do a job or chore. For example, if while at the market, your roommate picks up a quart of milk for you, he has "saved you the trip" because you no longer have to go out yourself.
