When they say "satellite navigation system", do they mean GPS?

I assume that GPS is only one satellite navigation system, and that there are others, such as those owned and operated by governments all over the world for military, scientific, and meteorological use. "satellite navigation system" is the broader term.

GPS means 'global positioning system'. I'm not sure about the technicalities of it, but I do know that the SATNAV device in my car tells me exactly where I am by using satellites, so perhaps it is the same.
