If you really try to learn natural English, you don’t say “He sat in front of the dining table with his family for dinner”.
Because normal people are not likely to stand up behind the dinner table when they have dinner with family.



Try this: He was having dinner with his family at the dinner table

Like I said, if I had to pick one….

If you dissect the sentence the way you had it, there is nothing wrong.

“He sat in front of the dining table with his family for dinner”. It’s ok- nothing wrong! Just a little unnatural to me.
