SAT Grammar Questions Vol. Find The Wrong One

Hey guys, need some explanation to why I got these wrongs.
I will really appreciate some help and explanations!
Along the curve of islands known as the Florida Keys lies
a reed of living coral, the only one of a kind in the continental United States.
No Error
I put 'B' but it was 'D'. Isn't "lies" singular? There is more than one island
which is known as the "Florida Keys" so shouldn't it have been "lie"
since it's plural?
Since some people are convinced thatdowsing, a method of finding
underground water with a Y-shaped stick, is effective, but others condemn the procedure asmere superstition. No Error
I put 'E' but it was 'A'.... why?
Also supported by the commission was the proposed health clinics
and the proposed center to distribute information on job-training opportunities.

I put 'A' but it was 'B'
The reseach study reveals startling proof of a constant
changing seafloor that comprisesthe major
part of the underwater landscape. No Error
I put 'E' but it was 'B'

In the first one, the reef (singular) lies. In the second one, I can only guess that they don't like using "Since" for "Because" but I feel that argument was lost a long time ago and it's commonly used that way now. Oh well.
