"sapping me dry"

Hi, I'm wondering if the phrase "sapping me dry" can be used to express fatigue/tiredness? Is the sentence "work is sapping me dry" appropriate? Or is there any sentences that have similar meaning? Thanks a lot.

I don't think that people, themselves, are sapped . Rather something in the person is sapped: The trip had sapped all the energy from the traveler, and he could no longer go on.
