"A Secret Santa" refers to one who gives a gift at Christmas without revealing who gave it, which was the way the original, historical "Saint Nicholas" is said to have done it.

It is fairly common for a group of people to exchange gifts this way, especially in the workplace. This is usually called "a secret Santa gift exchange". The names of the participants are put on slips of paper which are then put in a hat. Everyone draws from the hat, putting the name back into the hat if they draw their own name, of course. They then get a gift for the person whose name they have drawn. A date is set when all the gifts are exchanged at a small ceremony and/or party.

This way of exchanging gifts is more economical than having everyone buy a gift for everyone else.
