Oxford Dictionaries describes its use as "literary, humorous", which, funnily enough, are exactly the words that I had typed before I looked there. One does occasionally see the word, but it is not used in ordinary everyday contexts, and for English learners the best advice is probably never to use it at all, as fivejedjon said.
